PRIMARY,SECONDARY,TERTIER SOURCES :) WEEK 2

Assalamualaikum.. Today i want to share about what i have learnt in this week..
What I’ve learnt in week 2 is about sources. Okay, what do you know about sources? Source is actually something like the tools or search strategies to find information. You know what, before this I did not know well about the sources. For your information, there are three categories of sources:
1.      Primary sources
2.      Secondary sources
3.      Tertiary sources

PRIMARY SOURCES

Contemporary Accounts - of an event written by the person who witnessed or experienced it.
Original Document  – not about another document or account.
Published works  - as long as they are written soon after the fact and not  as historical accounts

     What is a primary source?
A primary source is an original object or document, first-hand information.
Primary source is material written or produced in the time period that you may be investigating.
Primary sources enable the researcher to get as close as possible to   what actually happened
during an historical event or time period.
Example:
DIARY
LETTER

SPEECHES

                                                                     MANUSCRIPT
SECONDARY SOURCES

What is a secondary source?
Is something written about a primary source.
Are written "after the fact" - that is, at a later date.
Usually the author of a secondary source will have studied the primary sources of an historical period or event and will then interpret the "evidence" found in these sources.
     As second- hand information.
Interpret primary sources - at least one step removed from the event or  phenomenon under review
Examination of studies that other researchers have made of a subject .

Example :

ENCYCLOPEDIA

HISTORY TEXTBOOK

You know what?Newspaper and magazine articles can be a primary or secondary source.
If the article was written at the time something happened, then it is a primary source.
However, if a reporter in 2009 wrote about George Washington’s inauguration using information written by someone else (1789), that would be asecondary source.

TERTIERY  SOURCES
 >Collection of primary and secondary sources
 >Includes most types of references.
 Example:

INTRO N INFORMATION LITERACY PROCESS :) WEEK 1

Assalamualaikum.. welcome to second trimester.. In this trimester i was taking information literacy as a ICT subject,, this is my first week i have learnt about IL.. My lecturer for this subject is a Miss Asna Khairun :) What i have learnt is what is Information Literacy.. What does it means ?? Information Literacy is divided by 6 types.. For example : Critical Thinking Literacy , Library Literacy , Media literacy, Computer Literacy and so on.. for short meaning of information literacy is as “the adoption of appropriate information behavior to identify, through whatever channel or medium, information well fitted to information needs, leading to wise and ethical use of information in society”. The meaning of Information Technology is A set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the related information..

THE BIG 6 (INFORMATION LITERACY PROCESS)

Information Literacy Process :
is a framework for solving problems
is a Transformational process in which the leaner needs to find, understand, evaluate and use information in
various form to create personal, socials or global purpose.
1) TASK DEFINITION : we have to define the problem and identify information needed. What type the information does we need ?
2) INFORMATION SEEKING STRATEGIES : we have to determine the range of possible sources. Which are the best source that you want to put in your report ?
3) LOCATION AND ACCESS : We locate sources and find information within sources. Where ? and where information in each sources ?
4) USE OF INFORMATION : engage such as read, hear, view or touch) that information.
5) SYNTHESIS : We organize information from multiple sources and we present it..
6) EVALUATION : At the end, we judge the product including judge the information problem to solve it. Is the task complete ? The objective is archive or not ?

DATABASE - WEEK 12 :)

Assalamualaikum and very good evening.. Tonight i will talk about DATABASE.. from what i already knew database is like electronic filing... its make our work more easier. Software that we use to manipulating database is a Database Management System...Database also have 4 component which are DATA ITEM, RELATIONSHIPS, CONSTRAINTS, SCHEMA.. from what i have learnt, Database Management System have 5 primary function such as
•Define, create and organise a database
      •Input data
      •Process data
      •Maintain data integrity and security
       Query database
The DBMS software together with the Database is called a database system There are four type of
 database model.. :
    Hierarchical databas
     Network database
     Relational database
    Object-relational database
SQL is a language that we use in database for requesting information from database..SQL stand for
standardized query language .Usually we use MICROSOFT ACCESS for their DBMS.. for summary in this
lesson database is a collection of data that we already prepared so that a computer program can quickly
select desired items.
THANK YOU :)
